Who decides what commercials will be played on a channel?
ByOkay, so I’m taking action, starting here and I’ll take it as far as I can.
I’m doing this to save anyone I can, people I don’t know because I have a conscience and my little feelings get hurt each time I read a story about this…
First, I’m wanting to know who has control over what advertisements/commercials are played on a specific channel?
I watch CB33 (I think) – http://www.the33tv.com/. Late night after Cheaters comes on, infomercials follow. I watch these. Some offer products such as (weight sets, sexual enhancers, and fake overnight money makers).
I’m standing against the fake overnight money makers.
A couple being “Jeff’s Shortcut to Internet Millions”, “Cash Flow Notes”, and “Cash for Gold”(which I first hand experienced).
There’s millions of stories on these. I’ve been reading into them for a while. I actually met a guy on a forum who lived close to me here in Dallas. We met up after he told me his story. Because, of course anyone can conjure a big lie to try and impress you.
We met at a starbucks and he brought his packet from Jeff’s Shortcut–. There’s his proof right there. He went on and described the whole process and how the simple packet/book he was given didn’t teach him anything a child wouldn’t know.
He was a man who lost his job, had a small amount of money and tried to make it big in a down economy.
I’m wondering if channel 33 (the news crew or whoever), has the ability to stop airing these. They’re all about supporting and helping us through these “hard times” but are they helping when they air fraudulent advertisements and scams?
They don’t have a forum on their site, just a twitter account and a facebook. I don’t use either of those sites – so I’m not sure if I can comment and have some of their other viewers support me through this.
I thought cash for gold was a simple solution to get rid of jewelry (that I NEVER wear) and make a decent buck. I was sent 6$ for hundreds of dollars of jewelry. I immediately sent my check back, carefully followed their refund/return policy and never saw my money again because they claimed they didn’t receive it before the 30 days. How was I to know of this scam?
–This is exactly what I’m trying to protect other people from, and I just need to be pointed in the person responsible for allowing it.
As always, I rate any good answers with thumbs up, best answer gets a full row of stars
Thanks
Chris
p.s. – If I’m successful, I plan on carrying this on to ever channel that airs these.

In answer to your title question (seeing as your explanation is so long i can’t be bothered to read it) complete idiots!
The channel director decides what commercials will be on by way of contacts to air them!
It’s not the TV personalities who choose the commercials, it is the corporate network executives (who, If I may add, will air pretty much any commercial as long as their getting paid). Also, the network only shows a certain percentage of the commercials. Some of them are from your cable or satellite company.
well they show all the legal disclaimers etc upfront so you cannot go after the tv station, but these guys running these schemes pay for the time slots which the tv stations would probably fill with reruns, which costs them more, then selling the slots to infomercials.I remember when tv stations would stop broadcasting after midnight, they would play the national anthem, then test pattern. I forsee a 24hr society, so early morning programming may be something to look forward too, instead of informcials. If they were’nt making a buck they wouldn’t be on tv. What we need is to change our thinking of what is on tv, seems that tv gives a bit more credibility to a company or item versus spam, or catalogs.
well companies pay for advertising slots and so if they can afford it, don’t breach any infringement or liable laws and are legal I would saw they can advertise when and where they want.
why don’t you write to the channels, your local policitian (and in the Uk we have an advertising standards commision – the IPC, you may have a similar board who regulate advertising in the US – write to them too)
state your concerns and see how you get on. but make sure you have all the facts before you do anything – you don’t want to fall at the first jump…….
good luck!
the correct answer is the media agency does.
ad agencies create the ads. media agencies do the research on which viewers watch which channels at what time. so placing an ad at a certain channel at a certain time is proposed by the media agency and final approval comes from the product owner (such as pepsi, kellogs).
the ads you are talking about however are all scam ads. they usually have direct access to when and where they air their commercials. the tv network itself just sells the spot, then turns a blind eye to what goes on in the commercial.
however, your ire seems misplaced. sure you got duped by a scam ad on tv. don’t blame the messenger. they didn’t ask you to watch tv, they didn’t ask you to watch the commercial, they did ask you in a very sneaky way for your money, but you didn’t have to fall for it. I feel for you, but use your common sense next time. if something’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Commercials work this way and you’ll notice the trend. They go by the demographics of whatever show you are watching. If you notice during the daytime the shows are usually commercials for schools or whatnot because people who are at home watching television probably don’t have jobs or go to school. If it’s on during the night and it’s a show geared to ladies you’ll see commercials for ladies’ products, etc. Same goes for shows geared to men, children, teens, etc.
As for the ones that are one late at night those are geared to people who probably don’t have anything better to do but be up late and night and are probably under the influence as well. They’re easily susceptible. But that Cash for Gold is on all the time – that’s just geared to who knows…suckers? You should have known you wouldn’t get what they were selling. I’d have went to a pawn shop.
The sex ones or whatever are only allowed to be shown at night and that’s why those are on then.
