Twitter, what and why? is it possible to make money from it?

Whats so intriguing about this new social web phenomenon Twitter?
So many people are joining, and talking about it that it seem to be taking over the world!! Is it just an addicting habit? or is it really a convenient and useful service? is it like youtube, in the sense that the more subscribers, or in this case followers you have the more money you will recieve in w.e partnership deal there is??

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are showed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers). Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow anyone to access them. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Small Message Service (SMS) or external applications. The service is free to use over the Internet, but using SMS may incur phone service provider fees.
You can make money from it by using but the owners sold it and the new owner is a jerk… I reccomend you don’t spend alot of time on it seen as the jerk might just suspend your account.
