Difference between Indie and Hipster?

Recently I’ve been hearing the word “hipster” a lot in pop culture. I’m not sure if I am a hipster or not.
Many people call me “indie” or “artsy”. I am a 17-year-old male, I wear polo shirts and jeans (or slacks), although I’d be fine with whatever. I dislike stores like Abercrombie, and I don’t fall for commercial trends easily. I am very into social media, and use facebook, twitter, blogging, etc. to my advantage. I enjoy coffee shops (they seem to be affiliated with hipsters) and find technology interesting, although I have no need for new gadgets on a regular basis. I listen to a lot of jazz and “indie rock”, and I also love The Beatles and Coldplay. I care a lot about academics, and am respected in my school as a leader, but I don’t hang with the cool kids. As far as social cliques go, I fall somewhere between the theatre/artsy kids and the nerds/geeks, although I have several friends who are very into “being cool”, but I don’t hang out with them much in school because that’s all they care about. I have no beard or goatee, and don’t plan on getting one. I’m pretty liberal, find big cities attractive, enjoy the arts and am a bit of an audiophile. I’m obsessed with environmental protection, civil rights and individual freedoms, which I am often made fun of at school (my friends joke around by calling me a communist redneck, because I’m very liberal about most things but I’m also obsessed with the Bill of Rights and our CONSTITUTION!!!!). I would consider myself anti-establishment in philosophy, but I rarely rebel against how things are. I don’t have a great desire for lots of money or wealth, but I have a hard time parting with cash as well. I don’t do drugs, and think they’re stupid, although I do respect the creative need of, for instance, various 1960’s artists in the psychedelic era, to take some mind-expanding substances.
So, what am I? Am I a hipster? If I am, is it a bad thing? If I am not, what am I? I usually don’t worry about things like this, but I just want to make sure that I am not a hipster.
Also, what is the difference between indie and hipster? How about alternative and indie? I don’t get all these terms.

Well, you see, my friends and I would really like to make a Charity to help kids around the world. We want to make it Global, so we are going to make a youtube channel for it and a Twitter for it. The Charity is called, ” We Give to Live.” And the slogan is, ” Give so they can Live.”. We will have contests, events, and hopefully if they are nice enough, maybe get a really cool celebrity involved! Obviously its not gonna be an actual “charity” with spokespeople, ect. But hopefully it will catch on and enough people will get involved to actually make it an official charity. All money will be donated to the charity of the charity of the followers choice and it will be donated every year. We don’t want answers on how this will never work, we need legal permission, which we dont need legal permission by the way because this is our own thing we started. Do paypals cost money? And if so, how do you create one?

I’ve found a guy I want to spend my life with, but can’t stand his family?
I’m in a long term relationship with a guy for 4 years now. He’s a wonderful guy most of the time. He doesn’t do drug, smoke, drink, and he never loses his temper ever. He always keeps himself together. But I can’t stand his family, specially his conceited sister. His parents have serious financial debt with a lot of people including my family that his brother and his sister had to cancel their wedding and ended their relationships with their partners who his parents borrowed money too. His brother and he had to help out with the debt, working their as* off to pay bills and the debt but his sister lives a life that’s the opposite of theirs although the three of them (he, bro, and sis) live in the same house that they rent. He and his bro just started a business and business isn’t really that good while his sister only stays in her fully air-conditioned bedroom where she only plays with her blackberry all day (her boyfriend pays all of these for her). She acts and feels like she’s a celebrity and everybody needs to know what she’s up to every minute in order to survive living! I’m not making this up. Although she’s older than me, she will sabotage the computer the whole night just because she wants to upload photos to her facebook and reply to every new comments she receives… she will also interrupt when we’re arguing to ask him to correct her grammar so she can update her status on facebook and twitter. She also feels the need to talk in a really loud voice and walk in heavy steps everywhere she goes so that people will pause what they do so they will turn around to watch her. When she appears or says something, it makes me want to jump and choke her to death. She’s the worst. She doesn’t try to get a job because her boyfriend pays her for everything. It’s been 2 years, my mom’s firm is closing due to the bad economy. My family has to quit our gym membership etc while her sister goes to a well-known overpaid gymplace. They’re not able to pay my mom back, now my youngest sister isn’t able to go to college. I can’t help with that much money either to pay her through college because I have my own financial situation. I know it’s not up to me how her bf wants to spend his money on, but.. I find it really hard to be a “bigger person” here to understand. It’s just not fair how things are, my family is the one they owe money to but his sister lives a better life than ours. The first few year after their family borrowed money from my mom and started avoiding her calls, my mom realized they couldn’t pay her in a week like they promised her.. she started to get really sick and stressed out that she had to be hospitalized for a week. This happened twice. I just feel so nauseated with his family that sometimes I feel I don’t want to go on anymore.
I guess what I wanted to say is.. I’ve found a great guy I’d like to spend my life with despite his family’s huge debt.. I can’t stand his family to the point I don’t want them in my life.. And I know it’s an impossible thing to wish for, hoping they won’t be in our lives anymore in the future because if we get married and everything, I’ll have to go to their place for family gatherings etc. I know it’s inevitable and it’s not fair to ask him to exclude his family from our lives. I’m so confused… I know many people will tell me that I can always find another guy.. But it’s not really the case. He’s a really great guy… He would come to my mom’s place once in awhile to accompany her on weekend while my sisters are out. My family and I know that he’s a really wonderful person. But his family has been mistreating my family in many ways and it hurts so bad with they way they treat us, while all we did was lending them money when they needed it. In a way, his family is really bad for our mental health. We no longer have a tiny bit respect for them and it’s hard for me to think of way to face his family without wanting to b*tchslap them (specially his sister) with everything they’ve done to me and my family.
What would you do if you were me.. what if you’ve found a really great guy you want to spend your life with but has a family you can’t seriously stand..?
Good advices will be much appreciated.

Why’s everybody else lives better than mine?

Ok im here for both the answers and the outlet to vent my frustrations which have been eating at my head for far too long. I always thought and im quite sure that im right when i say that the quality of a persons life can be measured by the people in that persons life. In my case, i barely have any people, end result? no or little quality of life. yeah i got some frens overseas i communicate with, i got my family and all but im talking about physical people friends, an alarming shortage in my life for no reason. Here i am, young, not too bad looking, nice, social, funny, a leader in many aspects, willing to help out, willing to listen and yet im friendless!? Absolutely no one, i’ve been trying for God knows how long, I’ve been praying, I’ve been patient the only thing i see happening while i wait is my anger rising and seeing other people have and make a ton of people as their friends. They got friends who are guys, friends who are girls, friends who call em out for dinner, for drinks, for a party, for sport, for a drive. It seems everybody has friends, everybody has that high quality of life except me. I know someones going to say that well everybody has problems despite their large number of friends, but the thing is they have those friends and i dont, i dont care about what problems your having in life, cuz in the end u have friends to help u get thru. If your friendless like me and facing probs then yeah i empathise with u bro/sis. Ok, im also not here to get advice on how to make frens or how to better my situation, my question is this, why do some fortunate people have it better than others. im not talking privilege, im not talking money, im talking quality of life. why do some people have that commodity that everybody else jus takes fore granted, friends? why are people like me stuck to eternal loneliness despite my best efforts against it? and ok fine, if u dont agree with me when i say quality of life is determined by people, then how is it that people with a lot of friends seem to be living, interesting, fulfilling and happening lives? Name me one lonely person thats popular and has a high quality of life, just one. Look at Facebook or twitter or myspace, people with like 1000 friends on there are posting pics of them going out with huge groups of people to this party or that event. I hate those networking sites. Somebody tell me waht the hell is going on here, because ive just about had it with this, i simply cant take it anymore. Ive battled some crap in my life before but this time im stumped, i feel like im slipping from being a level headed person to someone whose anxious, paranoid, impatient, angry, apathetic, i dont want to become that guy driven mad by loneliness….

My friends and my aunt who is a lawyer think my 40 yr old bf is very dangerous and want me to leave him and move away

I laughed it off and thought he meant he was tough in business (he is a venture capitalist and movie producer)
but then he made it his facebook and twitter status and my friends were like wth.
next he kept complimenting my looks on my facebook wall and my friends said he must be telling me he loves me forver because he is infatuated, not truly in love with the inner me.
when i asked him why he loved me he said its because im sweet, not in his industry and accept him.
nothing abou tme personally.
anyway then he did something out of the blue that set off alarm bells with my aunt who is a lawyer
he asked me if i have life insurance
which is weird because he knows im an old 29, an orphan with no dependents.
he later claimed he never brought it up first i did.
well based on that my aunt looked up stuff on him
she told me he was sued by foreign investors in his movies and had to pay 250000 dollars back 2 years ago
that he and his ex wife never paid for birth of their son and were sued for 15000 by the hospital
my friends then told me that theyve heard thru gossip that he is playing his rich older ex gf and taking her out sometimes just so she’ll lend him money to get a screenwriter for a movie that could make him millions.
the thing is he is always nice to me when we’re together
should i base leaving him on what my friends and family say ?

i really just dont understand the point in life anymore?

Hi. Just a warning in advance, this is going to be long, so if you take the time to read this thank you so much.
I am severly depressed and i’m only 16. I feel like i’m missing out on a big part of my “youth”. Everyday, every SINGLE day, I watch kids from 3:30 to midnight. Two 2 yr olds. They are extremely bratty, annoying and possesive. Plus they hate eachother, so that makes it oh so much easier for me. So everyday in that time period I sit here on the computer doing nothing but Y/A, Twitter, Myspace…etc.I don’t get paid for watching them because “the parents don’t have enough ‘money’” so they take advantage of me. And it’s not like I can tell them I don’t want to watch their kids, my mom makes me because their her friends. But yet they have enough money to buy alchol and cigs, it disgusts me.
But before I watch them (from whatever time I wake up – 3:30) I don’t go anyway. I can’t even hang out with friends! Because they live in the next city over (like 30mins away) and my mom won’t drive me because “she doesn’t have enough gas!” and their parents won’t come and get me either. So, i’m sitting at home doing nothing once again unless my mom has to go run or errand or something then of course i’ll come so I can freaking see what the outside looks like. I can’t take any walks because theirs nothing around here, everything is like 5+ miles away. So there goes my summer.
And when school starts in the fall, it’s going to be school, and babbysitt, school and babysitt, etc. Thats it. I feel selfish for pitying myself, but I really can’t help but depressed because the ONLY time life was good was when I was 12. Thats it. Everything else was trash, for reasons I can’t really explain on Y/A.
Is life ever going to get any better? I mean, I just don’t see what so great about life, i’d much rather be dead (but I don’t have the guts to do anything like THAT)
any advice please?

Myspace being shut down?

Okay, so I was hanging out with one of friends today, and he said mypsace might be shut down because its not making enough money and more people are making facebooks and twitters. I dont really believe it since myspace has like a billion users, and everyday thousands of people are joining, but I just wanted to see what everybody else thinks, or if you have any info proving myspace will or will not be shut down. How do I make sure that my former in-laws leave me alone?

asked: A few days ago, I posted a question under a different account about my former mil being “hurt”, because I didn’t tell her about my engagement. My husband died in the middle east in 2003, and no we didn’t have any children. My former mil and sil have we’re horrible to me, pretty much from the time I met my husband and until he died. They viewed me as a rival for whatever reason, and my former mil use to call me a “dirty, nasty, greedy w****” as often as she could. My deceased husband loved his mom and sister, but he hated the way that they treated me.
At my husbands wake, they demanded to have all of his belongings, because they felt they we’re more entitled to them then I was. I was his wife, and I legally owned his possessions. I did tell them they could have a few of his things, but I was keeping the rest. This made them very angry. When they found out they weren’t getting all of his life insurance money, they threatened to sue me. Those two didn’t have a legal leg to stand on. My former mil and sil only received 10% of my deceased spouses $400,000 life insurance policy. The only time they ever called my husband was when they wanted money. He stopped giving them money in 2002, because he got tired of being their personal ATM machine. I would have given them 50% of the money, had they been civil to me. Luckily, they didn’t know about the supplemental life insurance policy that we had taken out prior to him deploying. I understand that they lost their brother/son, but I also lost my husband. Those two aren’t entitled to anything that I have.
I’ve changed my email address, shut off my cell phone service & went with a different provider, shut off my home phone & internet, closed my twitter, myspace and facebook accounts. Luckily, those two never knew where I worked or my work numbers. For my own sanity, I stopped talking to any of my spouses relatives or anyone associated with their family, not to long after my husband died, because those two twits wouldn’t leave me alone.
Oh I should mention that I sold my house, got a transfer for my job, and me and my fiance are moving back to our home state to be closer to our families. I just want to make sure that my former in-laws leave me alone, and don’t bother me anymore. How do I make sure that this happens?

what use is wasting time on the internet in sites like yahoo, myspace, google, twitter? How do these internet companies make so much money? I work in a oil drilling company and I can’t understand how someone sets up a company with a bunch of computers and become a millionare. The least time I get is to waste time on the internet, so I can’t understand the consumerism mechanics of these companies.

Is Google the most unethical company out there?

In 2006, Google agreed to censor itself to get a piece of the Chinese market. Sold it’s soul to the devil in other terms. Through the years, Google got mad because the Chinese intermittently would block Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (all owned by Google), and one day last year they shut them all off and never let them back online. Google wasn’t making any money. A few weeks ago Google announced it would stop censoring itself and if China didn’t like it, they’d pull out. Their deadline was last Tuesday. They’re still in China, and they’re still censored. It was clearly a power play with Beijing to get their biggest money-makers like Facebook and YouTube back online making money / free advertising.
Many companies are unethical, but isn’t Google particularly unethical for using this issue to further it’s profits?
